One of the best records of their career and undoubtedly the best of this specific period. In conclusion, Lights Out delivers real vintage Hard Rock with an edge. You know, special pants, garish colors and all. For example, Alone Again Or would have found a better home with The Beatles or gigs like Audience. Or it might have served as an entry into one of the infamous pop shows that were in fashion back in that time. There are – as always and very unfortunately – some fillers in this limited number of tracks. I listened to this track about a thousand times. And I kid you not, this track gets my system going alright after a night of heavy music and booze. A real early morning wake-up-and-get-your-breakfast song. Mystical, slow, but rock hard, expertly delivered and interpreted. And then, it’ll bring you back to reality with some wisdom about how a relationship can get lost in life. The latter tries to kill you with a super heavy, psychedelic, but extremely well-executed keyboard intro first. Yet, you can feel the emotions in Phil’s voice. The former talks about a relationship that – probably – never happened. Just Another Suicide contains a surprising riff that lightens up this track that would otherwise be bland.Īnd then there are the rock ballads Try Me and Love to Love. Too Hot to Handle and Lights Out always take me along a journey back to earlier days, still after all these years of listening to this record. But more’s the pity, he left the band (forcibly or not) more times than I care to count. ![]() If only this guy just would not have been such an ass on stage and elsewhere, they could have doubled their earnings and gotten to totally different levels in their career. They don’t make ’em this way anymore, unfortunately. All this is spiced up by rock ballads that we need to go look for these days first. The album Lights Out virtually bulges with stellar, vintage tracks, superb riffs ‘made by Schenker’, and powerful lyrics. Nor was their style blues-tinted and bleary-eyed from drug overuse as Led Zeppelin and their ilk of that time. Straight and true with a crunch, but not as hard-assed as AC/DC ever were. Lights Out gets you this special brand of Hard Rock with a sharp edge and Michael’s super-precise guitar play. Once out of UFO in 1978 for the first time, Schenker moved to found the Michael Schenker Group or MSG. That he never managed to stay for longer periods with the band is a pity. Other albums of that period were No Heavy Petting or – then again – Force It. ![]() The 1977 Lights Out is the fourth record of this series. Out of the nine albums recorded with UFO, five of them originated from this era. The first stint – the aforementioned Schenker years – were Michael’s longest continued and most productive engagement with the band. His personal issues, however, created enough dissent to have him hired and dismissed several times over many years. His talent undoubtedly helped UFO to shine on the international stage. Anecdotally, Michael’s brother Rudolf still plays for the Scorpions to this day. Michael’s relationship with UFO was spotty, though. Who better to choose than German-born Michael Schenker, a founding member of the Scorpions. Back in the ’70s, a super-gifted young lad, almost too young to be that good a guitarist, joined this band led by Phil Mogg in search of a riff maker. One of the best periods in the distinguished career of UFO are indisputably the Schenker years. Onah also revealed that this crisis will be the first major test of Sam's leadership abilities. And I think a lot of things that got set up and established years ago will allow the MCU to actually go in new directions that audiences are going to really, really be excited about." "In this universe, in this world, things that people do come back in ways that are surprising and unexpected, and Tim Blake Nelson coming back as The Leader is such an exciting thing to explore because his story now is going to challenge Sam Wilson, our new Captain America, in a way that he never expected. ![]() "Actions have consequences, and that's what's so great about what the MCU has been able to build," Onah told IGN at D23. Whatever his motivations, director Julius Onah makes it clear The Leader is so dangerous precisely because he's not a villain Sam Wilson will see coming. And that means he may also have his sights set squarely on the new Captain America. Ross himself probably won't appear in the film, given that actor William Hurt recently passed away, but The Leader could be looking to destroy Ross' reputation and discredit America on the world stage. Maybe being betrayed by one of the US military's most decorated military officers has Sterns in the mood for revenge. That may actually play into The Leader's role in New World Order. Assuming he resents being transformed into a super-genius with an oversized head in the first place, he has more reason to hate Ross and Blonsky. And as far as we know, The Leader has no particular reason to hold a grudge against Banner anyway. Bruce Banner is off-world for the forseeable future. So why is The Leader appearing in a Captain America sequel of all things? As we've already established, now isn't really an ideal time to explore the iconic Hulk/Leader rivalry in the MCU. Why the Leader is Captain America 4's Villain And if that is the case, expect this series to forge a direct link to the next Captain America movie. Given his interest in gamma science in general and Hulk's blood in particular, The Leader is the obvious candidate to be the villain pulling the Wrecking Crew's strings. Those villains try (very unsuccessfully) to steal a sample of Jen Walters' blood for their mysterious benefactor. Episode 3 also introduces the Wrecking Crew - four construction workers wielding stolen Asgardian tools. Thor: Ragnarok already adapted some elements of the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics, but the MCU may be tackling a full-fledged Planet Hulk movie or series in the near future.Īs for The Leader, there's some evidence that he could appear in She-Hulk before going on to serve as the main villain of Captain America: New World Order. Episode 3 shows Banner leaving Earth aboard a Sakaarian ship, apparently returning to that world to settle some unfinished business from his gladiator days. Marvel is rumored to regain full control of the Hulk rights as soon as 2023 ( based on some clever Reddit sleuthing), and they even seem to be teasing what's next for the character via a subplot in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. That's why Hulk's story has instead played out in the Avengers movies and Thor: Ragnarok, and likely why Nelson has yet to reprise his role as The Leader. However, Marvel Studios has shied away from another solo Hulk film, in large part because Universal Pictures holds part of the film rights. The Incredible Hulk was no doubt laying the groundwork for a sequel with the tease of Sterns transforming into The Leader. The Return of the Leader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Expect Nelson's character to look a bit different when he returns in Captain America: New World Order. After a cut on his forehead is exposed to Banner's irradiated blood, Sterns' head begins to swell and change. The film ends with Sterns trapped in storytelling limbo. Sterns is eventually strong-armed by General Ross into helping complete Emil Blonsky's transformation into the Abomination. ![]() He synthesizes Banner's blood, believing it holds the key to eliminating disease and unlocking humanity's full potential. But Sterns doesn't entirely share Banner's desire to eliminate the Hulk. This version of Sterns is actually Banner's ally - a cellular biologist helping the fugitive Banner seek a cure for his condition. Tim Blake Nelson plays a pre-transformation Samuel Sterns in the film. He's as smart as the Hulk is strong, making him easily among the most dangerous villains in the entire Marvel Universe.Ģ008's The Incredible Hulk set up The Leader as a future MCU villain. His exposure to gamma radiation boosted his intelligence exponentially. ![]() Whereas most Hulk villains try to prove themselves stronger than the Jade Giant, Samuel Sterns is very much the polar opposite to Bruce Banner. The Leader definitely qualifies as Hulk's main archnemesis. The Leader: Who Is Tim Blake Nelson's Character? While it was an urban legend that Netflix ultimately "killed" Blockbuster in the DVD rental market, Blockbuster's debt load and internal disagreements hurt the company. By 2006, Blockbuster's service reached two million users, and while trailing Netflix's subscriber count, was drawing business away from Netflix. In 2004, Blockbuster introduced a DVD rental service, which not only allowed users to check out titles through online sites but allowed for them to return them at brick and-mortar stores. In 2005, 35,000 different films were available, and Netflix shipped 1 million DVDs out every day. John Antioco, CEO of Blockbuster, thought the offer was a joke and declined, saying, "The dot-com hysteria is completely overblown." While Netflix experienced fast growth in early 2001, the continued effects of the dot-com bubble collapse and the September 11 attacks caused the company to hold off plans for its initial public offering (IPO) and to lay off one-third of its 120 employees. In September 2000, during the dot-com bubble, while Netflix was suffering losses, Hastings and Randolph offered to sell the company to Blockbuster for $50 million. The per-rental model was dropped by early 2000, allowing the company to focus on the business model of flat-fee unlimited rentals without due dates, late fees, shipping and handling fees, or per-title rental fees. Initially, Netflix offered a per-rental model for each DVD but introduced a monthly subscription concept in September 1999. Fearing competition from Amazon, Randolph at first thought the offer was fair, but Hastings, who owned 70% of the company, turned it down on the plane ride home. Randolph and Hastings met with Jeff Bezos, where Amazon offered to acquire Netflix for between $14 and $16 million. ![]() Netflix launched as the first DVD rental and sales website with 30 employees and 925 titles available-nearly all DVDs published. Hastings invested $2.5 million into Netflix from the sale of Pure Atria. Hastings is often quoted saying that he decided to start Netflix after being fined $40 at a Blockbuster store for being late to return a copy of Apollo 13. When the disc arrived intact, they decided to enter the $16 billion Home-video sales and rental industry. ![]() When they heard about DVDs, first introduced in the United States in early 1998, they tested the concept of selling or renting DVDs by mail by mailing a compact disc to Hastings's house in Santa Cruz. Hastings and Randolph considered and rejected selling and renting VHS as too expensive to stock and too delicate to ship. Randolph admired Amazon and wanted to find a large category of portable items to sell over the Internet using a similar model. Patty McCord, later head of human resources at Netflix, was also in the carpool group. Hastings and Randolph came up with the idea for Netflix while carpooling between their homes in Santa Cruz, California, and Pure Atria's headquarters in Sunnyvale.
